I really think that you as a party should take note of his achievements, He is a breath of fresh air, and I think that there are a great many people who feel that he has performed his duties extremely well, and I hate to tell you this but if there were more people who stood for election with similar principles they would go far. I’ve not heard of many LD voluntarily reducing their salaries or making successfull inroads into reducing the burden on the average tax payer.
Davies’ voluntary reduction of his own wage is admirable, but on its own hardly constitutes good government. Provisions such as translation serve a valuable social purpose; the Pride festival is one of the few public assertions of freedom in the privacy of your own home. Many of these points are elaborated on in the document above.
The Liberal Democrats in government would replace the regressive Council Tax with a progressive Local Income Tax. We would raise the personal allowance on income tax to £10,000, with the vast majority of people earning under £100,000 saving £700 each on their tax bill.
But we would never endanger the weakest people in society, causing huge damage to our community, just for a few scraps of tax money.
